EMBEDDED SOFTWARE ENGINEER
Petersfield, Hampshire, UK
InSync designs, manufactures and produces world-class broadcast video processing solutions. Working in hardware, software and the cloud, many sports or other live TV broadcasts originating from overseas have likely been processed by our technology.
Role
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated software engineer to join our embedded software team, contributing to the development of sophisticated video and audio processing solutions. Attention to detail in both the planning and testing process is integral to the role, ensuring development can be optimised with minimal impact to product quality or reliability. Reporting to the project leader, you will apply and improve your essential skills, developing a new range of innovative hardware products containing cutting-edge technological capabilities. In addition the role requires your expertise in supporting the existing range of industry-leading hardware products. Expanding your knowledge and skills through increased engagement with the full product life cycle, you will also receive the support and guidance of a team of experienced engineers, with a focus on collaborative working. As a dedicated team player, you will have the opportunity to share knowledge and mentor others.
Responsibilities
- Work with the embedded software and firmware team to add SMPTE 2110 capabilities to current hardware products.
- Work with the embedded software and validation team to develop an automated testing framework for testing hardware products.
- Work with the embedded software, firmware, and hardware team to develop a new hardware platform using next generation CPUs and FPGAs.
- Work with the embedded software, firmware, and hardware team to develop a new video conversion hardware product by 2024.
- Help create feature specifications based on user requirements.
- Learn and write efficient code based on feature specifications.
- Create technical documentation.
Essential Skills
Experience with the following:
- Using Linux for software development
- Developing software for Linux systems
- Writing code in C, C++, Python and Bash
- Using Git and Subversion revision control systems
- Strong problem solving, debugging, and testing skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Project planning skills
- Ability to work in a team and independently
Desirable Skills
Experience with any of the following:
- Developing GNU toolchains
- Developing Linux device drivers
- Building Linux distributions using Yocto Project
- Building software stacks using BuildStream
- Using GUI toolkits (GTK, Qt etc.)
- Using Jenkins or similar CI tools
- Using Docker or similar containerisation tools
- Using Microsoft 365
- Broadcasting knowledge
- SMPTE 2110 knowledge
